Once again, Apple updates the iTunes software and leaves us all scratching our heads wondering how we can extend doing the matters we once were able to discharge so easily.
If you wish to retain the full quality of the original CD you must import it as either a .WAV or AIFF file.If you purchase a song from the iTunes store it will be downloaded as an AAC file. This is Apple"s proprietary file format.
I will show you where to locate this option in the iTunes preferences now that they have been moved.
Instructions
1. Open iTunes and select "Preferences."
2. Now choose "General."
About two thirds down the page you'll see an option for "Importing Settings."
Click this button.
3. This option allows you to change the format of the CD you wish to import.
You may choose to reduce the size of the audio file by converting it to an AAC or mp3 file.
The compromise is that the smaller file size will allow your playback device to hold more songs, but only of a reduced audio quality.
As I've mentioned in other articles, the physical Disc format for audio news is a .WAV/AIFF file. When importing a CD into iTunes it is important to understand that any other format compromises the quality of the audio relative to how it is compressed (e.g. AAC, mp3).
Though similar to an mp3 in the way that it reduces the size of the file, it utilizes a different codec that aids in retaining a higher quality compression.
