Subtract this number from the actual wall measurement. Do this for each wall in the room.3.
2. Use the tape measure To gauge the length each wall in the room and write the measurements on your paper. The measurements need to be within a quarter inch of the actual measurement, so measure a few times to ensure accuracy. Measure the dimensions of each opening (windows, etc.) and add these measurements together.1. Sketch a Rugged format of the room in question, making sure to include appropriate markings to denote windows, electrical outlets, fireplaces, etc. Sketch these markings large enough to pencil in actual measurements later on.
Use the graph paper to plot the actual room drawing. Use the ruler to make straighter lines if desired. Start in any corner of the room to make the drawing, taking note that each square on the paper represents one actual square foot of measured floor space.
4. From construction paper, cut out shapes of furniture pieces that will be in the room. Use the same measuring technique as for creating the floor plan. Experiment with arranging the paper pieces on the floor plan to determine placement of the furniture.
