What Are The Cha Cha Slide Dance Steps

The Cha-Cha Slide is a column dance created by Mister.

"Turn it out!" or "Let's go to work!"

This is a "grapevine" with a turn. Make a turn to your left, then step to the right with your right foot and continue the grapevine step. The steps will repeat and you should be turned to your left to start the dance over in a new direction.

Depending on what side is called, transaction to the left or fly, then manner across that foot with your other foot. Bring your original foot from behind and step to the same side again, then bring your other foot next to it (a "touch"). This is called a "grapevine." Repeat the step until the next step is called. To go backwards, take three steps back, alternating your feet as though you're walking backwards. When you take the final step, put your feet beside each other.

"One (or two, or three...) hop this time!"

Jump forward with both feet for however many hops are called out.

"Right (or left) foot, let's stomp!"

Stomp whichever foot is called out.

"Cha-Cha!"

If you know cha-cha, do so. If you don't, start with your right foot, cross it over your left foot and step back with your left foot. Then, step to your right with your right foot, and step forward with your left foot. Repeat with the left foot as the front foot.

C, further notorious as Casper, a Chicago DJ. The dance was originally designed as a workout for Bally's Complete Fitness. The steps are called outside during the song, however provided you longing to memorize the Cha-Cha Slide before you're pulled onto a dance floor, come from these steps.

"Take it to the left! (or right!)" and "Take it back now!"

Extra dance moves

As the song progresses, Mr. C will call out new dance steps. These include: "Clap your hands," where dancers clap their hands to the rhythm of the song. Another easy step is "Slide to the left! (or right!)" where dancers slide the appropriate foot to that side, then slide the other foot to meet it. A slide to the opposite side comes when "Reverse, reverse!" is called. "Criss-cross!" is a little more difficult. Jump out, like you're beginning a jumping jack with your feet, then jump back in, and cross your feet over each other. Jump both feet back out again. "Hands on your knees!" requires dancers to bend their knees, and criss-cross their hands from knee to knee to the beat. The dance incorporates some well-known dance steps, too. "How low can you go?" encourages dancers to do the limbo and lean back to the floor. "Bring it to the top!" gets them back to a regular, standing position. The "Running man" dance -- rocking forward on one foot, and kicking the other foot back behind you -- is called the "Charlie Brown" in this song. If you want to put some personal flavor into the dance, use some sass (or some Madonna "Vogue" references) and strike a pose when Mr. C yells out "Freeze!" Take a few minutes to practice, but if you forget the steps, just listen to the music.
