The Trick
The Raven magnetism trick instruments consists of two leading objects: A artificial coin trumped-up of steel and plating and a electromagnet attached to an elastic band with a clip at the other heel. On the third or fourth wave of the hand (or hands), the coin vanishes. The magician then turns over both hands to reveal that the coin is nowhere to be found.
Secret
The coin is placed in the palm of the hand that doesn't have the magnet attached. While waving the hand, the magician must make sure no one sees the magnet or the elastic band underneath; fortunately, the audience should be looking at the coin and not the arms. The first few times the magician waves the hand, only the top of the hand passes over, or the hand is too high over the coin so the magnet won't catch it. The viewers should be watching downward from the top so as not to see this perspective. On the last time, the magician moves the magnet over the coin so the magnet picks it up. While the audience is briefly shocked over the disappearance, the magician slips the string off his finger, causing the elastic band, magnet and coin to retract into the shirt.
