Use Lens Filters For Black & White Photography

Account filters to beautify the tonal compass in nigrescent and achromatic pictures.

These filters range in density and are either yellow or red in color. The darker the filter, the more intense the tonal range will be. A dark red filter will create a black and white image rich in dark tones.

Instructions

1. Attach the filter you want to use for your black and white images.Unlike colour photography, charcoal and alabaster images cannot differentiate between colour tonal scale. When shooting in colour, you not onliest pay for the disparate colours that exist in your scene, on the other hand you further entertain the tonal digression between a animated blush and a far purple. In murky and blanched images, these two colours blameless panoply up as dun. Using distinctive filters attached to the front of your camera lens Testament consign you enhanced tonal range in dusky and white photography.

2. Turn your digital single lens reflex (SLR) camera on and, if you have the ability, change the color recording profile to black and white. This is not completely necessary as you will still need to change the color profile to black and white in post production. The picture you take with the filter attached will still create an image that is heavily tinted as a result of the filter.

3. Adjust the exposure to compensate for the loss of light as a result of the filter. As the filter's density increases, it lets less light through. The darkest filter will require an approximate two stop increase in exposure.

4. Take the picture. Download the picture to your computer. When you first download it, the picture will appear red. Remove the color profile from your picture and the resulting picture will be rich in tone and full contrast as a result of the red filter used on the lens.
