Make A Balloon Star

Cast a star from one long balloon.

Long, skinny balloons used to make balloon animals can also make other shapes. You can use the balloons to make hats, decorations and even stars. A long balloon star is created by forming 20 small 1/2-inch bubbles that can be twisted into a star shape. It may take several attempts before you can make this shape without popping the balloon because of all of the small twists in the bubbles. This star is made from one balloon, but you can make larger stars by connecting several long balloons and making the sections longer.

Instructions

1. Blow up a long balloon halfway and tie a knot in the end. You don't want too much air in the balloon; this leaves room for all the twists.

2. Twist one 1/2-inch bubble near the knotted end of the balloon. Make two more 1/2-inch bubbles farther away from the knot. Allow any excess air from the balloon not attached to the star to escape from the balloon. Tuck the loose end of the balloon into the star shape to hide it.

Twist the new triangle around the bubble that you skipped to make a pinch twist. Repeat this process three more times for a total of five triangular shapes.

4. Wrap the last skipped bubble around the base of the first triangle to make a star shape.

5. Push some air to the loose tip of the balloon. Twist the balloon to make a small bubble in the end of the balloon. Pop this bubble. Wrap the knotted end of the balloon around the base of the third bubble to make a triangular shape.3. Make four more 1/2-inch bubbles. Skip one bubble, then tie the other three into a triangle shape, just as you did at the end of the balloon.
