Middle School Portfolio Design Projects

Build your students' design skills while beautifying your school space by holding a poster design contest. Select a theme for your contest, choosing "Earth Day" if the contest takes place in April or "Welcome Back" if you intend to hold it at the beginning of the school year. View some effective posters with your students, using movie posters further as political posters from past generations as examples of high quality posters. Ask each student to create a poster. Hang them around the school, placing numbers on each in place of the student's name. Allow staff and peers to vote on the posters and award a prize to the student who made the best one. Take photos of the finished posters, placing these images in students' design portfolios.
